Katie Johnston , Pluralistic therapist, Perth and Kinross and across the UK online.

Busy Minds Counselling - ND Counsellor

I’m Katie Johnston, owner of Busy Minds Counselling. I offer a warm, down to earth counselling for adults and teens who feel overwhelmed, stuck or mentally overloaded.

My approach is neurodiversity affirming, trauma aware and collaborative, which means we work together at your pace, in a way that feels safe and manageable.

There's no pressure to have the "right words". Sessions are a space where you can be honest, messy, unsure or quiet - all of it is welcome.

My way of working is warm and collaborative using a pluralistic approach which simply means we can use different styles of therapy depending on what works best for you. Some sessions might be reflective and exploratory; others might be more practical and focused on coping tools. We explore together.

How I can Help ?

You don't need a diagnosis or a perfect explanation. Many clients come with a mix of things including:-

  • Anxiety and constant overthinking
  • ADHD focus and overwhelm
  • Trauma & past experiences that still affect you
  • Emotional shutdown or numbness
  • Low self esteem & Self criticism
  • Burnout, stress and life pressure

Clients tell me they feel ....

Heard without being judged

They can be themselves

They can tell me things that have been held for so long

Working with a Neurodiverse therapist

Being misunderstood or trying to work out your own identity can be an ongoing life journey. In private practice I have had the pleasure of supporting a variety of ND clients including those with Aspergers, Autism, ADHD and more. I find having lived experience helps to create a valuable therapeutic relationship with clients , who know they don't need to spend time explaining neurodiversity to me as " I get it".

This for some who are exploring whether they need a diagnosis , have a diagnosis or are processing how to cope with a diagnosis is helpful to have a therapist who understands and lives the neurodiverse life. Taking the first step to reach out can be hard but it's your first step to take !
