Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at katie@busymindscounselling.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I’m what’s known as a pluralistic counsellor which means that I have the skills to work across a range of modalities and bring lots of different tools and techniques to our sessions. I often think of it like cooking; it’s like having access to lots of different ingredients that I can choose from to make the chosen dish to taste, instead of only having enough to make the same single dish.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you're used to managing alone. If you decide to reach out we offer a free 10 minute telephone consultation first which allows you the opportunity to ask any questions regarding the service and way of supporting your need. It offers the opportunity to see if we might be a good fit to work together and if not you can continue your therapist search.

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you're used to coping on your own. Many people worry about what they'll be asked, whether they will say the " right" thing, or if it might feel overwhelming. There is no pressure to have everything figured out. Counselling is a space where you can arrive exactly as you are.

The first session is gentle and focused on getting to know you. We might talk about :-

  • What brought you to counselling now
  • How things have been feeling recently
  • Any past experiences that feel important to mention
  • What you would like to feel different in your life

You don't have to share your whole story straight away. We go at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you. There's also space for you to ask questions about how I work, confidentiality, or anything else you unsure about.

Counselling isn't about giving advice or telling you what to do. Instead, it can help you:

  • Understand why you think and feel the way you do
  • notice patterns that keep you stuck
  • develop more self compassion
  • feel calmer and more emotionally steady
  • build confidence in handing difficult situations

Change often happens gradually. Many clients say they notice small shifts - feeling less overwhelmed, more able to pause before reacting, or clearer about their needs.

Right now, I offer online sessions via Zoom, telephone counselling sessions over the phone across the UK .

How many counselling sessions you’ll need and how often we will meet will depend very much on you and what has brought you to counselling in the first place. This is something we can discuss during your free consultation or discovery session. Frequency can be weekly, fortnightly and monthly.

No, there’s no contract tying you into anything. If we decide to work together, I will share prepare a counselling agreement for you which I’ll need you to read, sign and return to commence your counselling. It’s a simple document that outlines what to expect from the sessions and helps you commit the time and energy required to get the most out of your experience.

it's completely normal to feel nervous before your first session. Many people do. You don't need to prepare anything special - just bring yourself, however you are feeling that day.

We offer a range of appointments from Monday to Saturday to accommodate those who work unsociable hours.

We require 24 hours notice for all appointment cancellations or the full session fee will be applicable. With notice we can offer your space to those on our waiting list.
